NEW YORK, NEW YORK: SHOPPING

New York è diventata la nostra metropoli preferita e probabilmente capiterà di tornarci una terza volta. Chissà, magari per la maratona!

La prima volta a New York è stata nel 2012 durante la prima settimana di dicembre. 5 notti e 6 giorni organizzati per filo e per segno, con tanto di programma in cui erano previsti lunghi momenti dedicati allo shopping sfrenato. La seconda volta è recente. Infatti, abbiamo terminato l'anno 2015 e iniziato il 2016 nella Big Apple.

Dicevamo...Shopping!!!

Il cambio euro/dollaro era particolarmente favorevole e Macy's a Midtown e Century 21, outlet nella zona di Wall Street, sono stati i nostri negozi di fiducia per regali natalizi firmati che qui in Italia non avremmo mai acquistato. Le differenze di prezzo su marchi come Ralph Lauren e Tommy Hilfiger sono notevoli, così come la varietà di modelli e fantasie.

Macy's è un grande magazzino dove trovi firme meno importanti e con offerte strabilianti. Ovviamente, se si vuole puntare più in alto anche il portafogli dovrà essere un po' più grosso e bisognerà dirigersi verso Bloomingdale's, Barneys o Saks, dove troverete tutte le ultime novità di Valentino, Gucci, DKNY, etc.

Saks si trova sulla 5^th e le sue vetrine natalizie sono strepitose e molto chic. Vi dico solo che sotto Natale danno uno spettacolo di luci e musica dalla parte che si affaccia verso il Rockfeller Center e noi l'abbiamo scoperto per caso. Quindi da una parte hai questo:

e dall'altra lo splendido e gigantesco albero che ogni Natale viene regalato da una famiglia americana.  

Non c'è niente da fare, gli Americani sanno come rendere luccicanti e speciali le festività natalizie.

Tornando a Macy's, qualcuno lo trova un grande magazzino impegnativo per l'orientamento. Effettivamente tutte e due le volte che ci siamo stati, ci siamo persi. Tranquilli, lo shopping è stato comunque produttivo e non ci siamo fatti demoralizzare.

Al Century 21, nonostante sia un outlet, c'è una distribuzione diversa. Al piano terra trovate accessori: orologi, portafogli, borsellini, borse e il reparto profumeria/make-up. Ai vari piani abbigliamento uomo e donna suddivisi per marchi e stili. E sì, qui grandi soddisfazioni. Ci si dovrebbe passare una giornata intera. L'unico inghippo è quando viene il momento di provare tutti i capi scelti e ammucchiati nel proprio carrellino. Al momento della prova, infatti, si possono portare in camerino al massimo 8 capi e secondo voi, potevo mai avere solo 8 capi da provare? Direi proprio di no!

Alla fine della vacanza, non ho proprio svaligiato New York, ma sicuramente sono tornata a casa con una valigia più gonfia, sia nel 2012 che nel 2015/2016. Comunque, mio marito non è stato da meno. Soprattutto in questo secondo viaggio in cui ha fatto grossa scorta di jeans Levi's per cui ha completamente perso la testa! E poi dicono che siamo noi donne malate di shopping... 

Per concludere, vi raccomando fortemente di partire dall'Italia sempre con una valigia quasi vuota!!!

New York is probably our favourite big City. Maybe we will come back there for the third time and the occasion could be the Marathon, why not?

The first time in New York was in December 2012. 5 nights and 6 days entirely arranged by me. I planned everything, even shopping time! The second time was the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016. New Year’s Eve in New York is great, it’s an experience that you have to do one time in our life.

Let's talk about Shopping!!!

In 2012 the exchange rate was more favourable than in 2015 but we had good shopping anyway. Our trusted malls were Macy's, Midtown, and Century 21, Downtown/Wall Street. We have bought clothes and Christmas gifts at prices that you cannot find in Italy (Ralph Laurent, Tommy Hilfiger) and you can even have more choice of colours and samples.

Macy's is a big shop where you could lose yourself and sometimes really happens. We lost twice in there! The only problem that you could find at Century 21 is the time dedicated to the fitting room 'cause you can bring with you only 8 clothes/sweaters, T-shirts and surely you would not take only 8 pieces, there's too much choice. 

The designers that you find in those two big shopping center are less important, but if your wallet is big enough, you can go to Bloomingdale's, Barneys or Saks where you can find all the last samples of Valentino, Gucci, DKNY and so on.

Saks is also famous for its beautiful shop windows on the 5^th. Take a look at its great Christmas light show, that is different every year. On the other side of the avenue, you can admire the colourful and bright Rockfeller Christmas tree. American people know how to create a brightful Christmas!

To conclude, let me give you the most important information. One thing that you have to remember before the departure...bring with you a big empty suitcase!
